Building the Log Home

8.30 a.m. the morning of  Wednesday 27th November 2002, and the first logs are laid and construction of the Log Home is finally underway.

By lunchtime the same day it was looking like this. Then it started to rain. Again !
At the end of the day it was looking like the start of a home.

Despite the heavy rains, the lads had done a super days work. The front door opening is quite evident now.
The next morning dawns. Heavy rain overnight made the site very wet, but bright weather by morning allowed work to resume. In the foreground with the cap is David, a Carpenter from Nova Scotia who is experienced in working with log homes. He says "Hi" to those watching back home in Canada.

Simon Edwards of  TEC, the local Carpentry Contractors (The Boss) is becoming familiar with techniques required to build a log home. A very big hammer !
"Now, where do I put the next log !"

Pausing for thought.

By lunch time on Thursday it was raining again. Stuart is bailing out the floor with a shovel. It's a good job if you can get it !

Friday 29th November 2002 is a bright morning. The scaffolding is being erected and windows have been installed.
The gable ends are getting taller, ready for a roof.

Now the gable walls must be secured to the base using long through bolts. These pass through holes drilled in the logs from the top to the bottom of the walls.
The gable is up. David is cutting pockets into the gable ends to take the roof beams.

He does this with a chainsaw !!!! Wow.
The crane arrives to lift the beams into place on the roof.

Each beam is lowered into the pockets cut into the log walls.
Wednesday 4th December, the roof is boarded across, the insulation in the foreground is waiting to go on next.

With the roof boarded, we finally have a view of the inside of the log home.
